Clevis mounting is a versatile mounting option that allows angular alignment and pivoting, commonly used where the cylinder must articulate with the machine linkage.
What is a clevis mount?
A clevis is a U-shaped bracket attached to the cylinder rod end or head that receives a pin to form a pivot joint. It provides a simple pinned connection for oscillating or swinging loads.
Advantages
Permits small angular misalignment between cylinder and load.
Compact and easy to install or replace.
Suitable for linkages on excavators, tipplers, presses and other moving equipment.
Design & installation guidelines:
Pin shear capacity: Select pin diameter and material to safely carry shear loads with an appropriate safety factor.
Bearing & bushings: Use hardened bushings or bearings to reduce pin wear in oscillating applications.
Lubrication: Provide grease fittings or self-lubricating bushes where regular maintenance is required.
Alignment: Ensure clevis and mating bracket align to avoid side loads that could bend the rod. Use spherical or trunnion arrangements if larger angular offsets are expected.
Retaining: Secure pins with cotter pins, circlips or locking bolts as per application criticality.
Common usages
Bucket linkages, tilt mechanisms, tippler arms, and other pivoting connections in industrial and mining equipment.
